Overview
The D-SNP market has grown by half a million members over the last 12 months. Now it’s almost six million strong. With most Dual Eligibles in either straight Medicaid or non-SNP MAPD, the opportunity for D-SNP to grow — even despite reimbursement challenges — is significant. Our study has become the industry guidebook for organizations wanting to best service this rapidly growing senior segment.
Insights From the 2024 Report
Supplemental Benefits Matter
Today, more than a quarter of Dual Eligibles (see chart) would rather have a plan that provides all their preferred additional supplemental benefits and allowances than keep their current doctor.
Noticing the Cuts
In addition to impacts on dental coverage, nearly a quarter of Duals and Low-Income Non-Duals reported decreases in some flex card allowances. Close to a fifth indicated feeling cuts in medical transportation, and nearly as many noted reductions in foot care.
Drivers Behind Record Switching
In an era of austerity, the benefits most at risk are the ones consumers covet. The safest are the ones no one uses. And what do Duals value? Dollars on flex cards, dollars for dental, and (to a lesser extent) rides to medical appointments. Perhaps this is why switching hit a four-year high in the 65-plus Dual and Low-Income Non-Dual market.
